Devotions – Feb 4 – 10

Healthy Mind, Body & Spirit

Scripture for the week: Romans 12:1-21

Instructions

Read the Scripture above and live with it for the week. The devotion may either be done by yourself or with someone else. Good conversations will almost certainly come from sharing this with someone else.

Devotion

In worship on Sunday (2/3), we included the graphic above showing the relationship between mind, body and spirit.

We know a lot about how to care for the body. The FDA developed the “food pyramid” and then the “plate” to give guidance on healthy eating.  We know about exercise.  We know how to use our bodies, how to strengthen our bodies, and what happens if we don’t use our bodies.

We know how to use our minds, how to strengthen our minds, and what happens if we don’t use them.

But what about the spirit?  How do we use it?  How do we strengthen it?  What happens if we don’t use it?

The truth is that we need to be strong in body, mind AND spirit in order to be healthy and whole people.  Having a healthy mind and body garners a lot of attention and study.  The efforts and effects are measurable.  Having a healthy spirit is not measurable by strength or by a test, but it is evident through the living of our lives.

Take time this week to consider your spiritual health.  This is not a time of judgement, but for honest assessment.  As you read the Scripture for the week, do you gain any insights?
