Jesus Christ is risen!
He is risen indeed. Alleluia!
This is good news to us, and we’ve come to expect this annual proclamation of Jesus’ resurrection. I wonder what the first month after the resurrection was like for the apostles. We have record of some of it in the Bible. The Bible doesn’t explain how the apostles got used to living as Jesus’ disciples knowing that their teacher, who Peter confessed as “the Messiah, the Son of the living God” (Matt 16:26), died before their very eyes, but then was raised from the dead. How do you get used to something like that? It’s clear from the Bible and history that the resurrection touched their lives. It was an event and experience that came to guide their decisions, motivation, every other aspect of their lives.
As Jesus’ disciples today, how does Jesus’ resurrection touch and mould our lives? Do we know the joy and purpose of life as freed and forgiven children of God?
This week, I encourage you to follow the outline below for your time with God.
- Pray for your time and ask God to move in your heart and help you remain open to the leading of the Holy Spirit.
- Read the Scriptures listed for each day below.
- Take some time in a quiet place to pray that the Holy Spirit would show you how Jesus’ resurrection can and does touch your life, and how you extend the resurrection to touch the lives of others.
- At the end of your time with God, after you pray for those on your heart, pray these words from St. Paul: I have been crucified with Christ; and it is no longer I who live, but it is Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me. (Galatians 2:19-20). You may want to also look at Romans 6:3-11.
