A few days ago, I was talking with one of our members about her travels for this summer. As we talked, I asked what ways she thought we could keep touch with our Bethel family while they travel this summer – or anytime for that matter. Without missing a beat, she said “Flat Jesus!” Well … I knew about Flat Stanley … so I was intrigued.

So, she sent me a picture of her Flat Jesus (see picture to the left) and said that he goes with her wherever she goes to remind her that Jesus is always with her.
I loved the idea and thought Bethel could use this as a fun way to keep in touch and to remember that Jesus is with us all of the time and no matter where we are.
If you have young children at home, this can be a fun way for them to get involved. They can color Flat Jesus and help take pictures with Flat Jesus in all of the interesting places you go. But this isn’t just for families with young children!
You can take pictures and post them to your favorite social media site (Facebook, Instagram or Twitter) using #BethelFlatJesus, or you can email them to me at pastorwilson@bethelmanassas.org.
Some of your pictures will show up on the flat screen in the narthex or on a bulletin board we’ll set up in the hallway.
Have fun with this! And use it as a time to talk about how Jesus is part of your everyday lives. You’ll notice that the template includes 2 Flat Jesus’. You can give the second one to a friend or family member. Consider taking an extra along with you this summer in case you run into someone who would like to take Flat Jesus on a journey, too.
For a template and instructions, see Bethel’s website.
